Outside the Mezquita
The students and teachers alike had worked hard to prepare this guide of Cordoba´s famous Mezquita and after over a month in preparation, it was time to begin the tour as the first event to celebrate the arrival of the Comenius group to our city.
Our guide began on the sunny morning of April the 14th at 9:00. The students introduced themselves to the Comenius group and began the tour in the beautiful Calleja de Flores, the Flowers alley. This was followed by a description of the Mosque exterior, San Sebastian Gate (the oldest part of the Mezquita) and the Pardon Gate. Then the students took the group to the shady Orange Trees Patio, and showed them the fountain, the cloister, and the famous Belfry Tower. After a general description of the different parts of the Mosque, the group had a short time to soak in the beauty of the patio before beginning the tour of the interior.
Inside the Mezquita
Inside, the students explained the four main expansions that had been made to the Mosque, by the Moslem kings Abd al-Rahman I, Abd al-Rahman II , Alhakam II, and Al-Mansur. Followed with an introduction to the Cathedral, the part of the Mosque built after the Christian Reconquest, highlighting the High altar, the Cathedral Choir, and the Treasury. We were even given special permission to visit the ethereal Sagrario Parish Church.
After the tour, students and teachers returned to Blas Infante to see a performance of “The Fortune Machine” by a group of first year students of Plurilingue. This play would later win first prize in the “Estrangis” competition for short plays in English and French.

Dear Cory,
I like your commentary on the Mosque-Cathedral’s guided tour. The photos cannot be seen. I’ll check what has happened.
